Yakima River Flood Warn
A school bus crosses the Yakima River on the Benton City bridge Thursday afternoon near the I-82 interchange at Kiona. A flood warning for the portion of river has been extended to Sunday evening. Water levels are forecast to reach flood stage late Friday and crest at about 14.3 feet by late Saturday morning. Residents along the river are urged to monitor water levels and listen for instructions from local emergency officials. For more information see breaking news story. (Herald/Bob Brawdy)
  • Toppled Tree Richland
    Herald/Kai-Huei Yau

Larry Corning of Richland clears branches off a downed 55-foot-tall blue spruce that was blocking his driveway Wednesday. It was one of several conifers toppled by high winds Tuesday night in the Tri-Cities. Sandi True of American Tree Service in Kennewick said when winds pick up, people should check the base of large trees for cracks in the soil — a sign that it is likely to fall. See story below.

If it wasn't bolted down or rooted into the ground, chances were good it blew over or blew away in the Tri-Cities the past two days.
