Death Cab for Cutie gives Sasquatch a hug

GEORGE — In contrast to how I felt about The Cure, Seattle's Death Cab for Cutie took a crowd already amped up by Michael Franti's set and took it a step further.

Death Cab came out with a track off their new album "Narrow Stairs," then followed with "The New Year," "Long Division," and "Soul Meets Body."

Lead singer Ben Gibbard then paused to tell the crowd about a little band he was excited to see at Sasquatch.

"I decided to wear black tonight for two reasons," Gibbard said. "One, I wear black on the outside because that's how I feel on the inside. Two, because I'm so goddamn excited to see The Cure that you wouldn't f-ing believe it."

Gibbard then dedicated "I Will Follow You into the Dark" to The Cure.

They then launched into "I Will Possess Your Heart." The song has an excessively long intro, but it pays off in the end. I was especially surprised by the prowess of bass player Nick Harmer, who trolls around stage with a menacing glare and pounds off some meaty lines.

Gibbard also threw in more on the Death Cab/Tegan and Sara relationship.

"You know you're in a weird setting when you're talking to Tegan and Sara's mom about the movie "Juno" and she's putting you in your place," he said laughing. "But you know what? I don't like that f-ing movie. I can say that. She's gone.

He then dedicated "The Sound of Settling" to her.
