The Cure sings me to sleep

GEORGE — I wasn't sure about this last night, so I had to sleep on it.

And while I fear the backlash, I've got to say I thought The Cure's set last night at Sasquatch was borderline boring.

Lead singer Robert Smith was barely able to string together two comprehensible sentences to the crowd and only uttered "kyou" a couple times after songs.

They sprinkled in a couple of hits and ended up cutting off "Just Like Heaven" with a jarring outro. It was almost like they threw it in because they felt they had to.

All through this the crowd, in stark contrast to earlier Sunday, was nearly motionless — even during the hits.

Was it that they were in awe?

End of a long day and awfully chilly?

Or was it that The Cure didn't live up to their billing?

I'm sticking with the latter. Though I'm sure many of you will disagree. I am going to hedge this somewhat though in that Smith was in fantastic voice — just as good as ever.
