House to house

Ever watch the TV show House? It's pretty intense. Hugh Laurie is one hell of an actor. He's a more cynical version of Dr. Cox from Scrubs, which I like very much. His presuming character is magical to watch and hard to stay mad at.

There was a marathon of House the other night. I try to watch great shows, such as Lost, Heroes or even Pushing Daisies, but I always get off-track, forget what station it's airing on, or simply lose interest. House is one of them. As much as I enjoy the hospital drama, I would simply need a TiVo to stay caught up.

Speaking of House, I actually moved into a house this weekend. Again folks, don't lift with your legs, it's all about the back...

All Saturday I spent packing up my kitchen and realizing just how much stuff I actually have. For one little person, I have a full kitchen, complete with flatware, dinnerware, cookingware and any other kind of ware you can think of.

Neatly packaging my drinking glasses, punch bowl, beer steins, 20 miss-matching wine glasses and whatnot, I started to think, "If this breaks during the move, I probably wouldn't miss it...and it might be a good thing." I ended up breaking one martini glass while reorganizing the cabinets (is it really necessary to have three drawers filled with plastic forks?).

My whole family came out Sunday (except for G-ma because, let's face it, she's old) to help with the move. Crazyness, I tell you. My brother, ever the one to pack light when he moves (which is a lot), was constantly "helping" me downsize by throwing things over my third-story balcony and onto the wet grass below. I think I sneezed more than 100 times that day. I lost count after 65... My nose was actually whistling when inhaled. You could hear me coming from a mile away.

I also lost my battle against Mountain Dew abstinence. I could no longer deny my thirst that only the acidic drink could quench. But that's not really a surprise to most. 5 days...new recent best.

Mr. Big and I got a half-gallon "bucket" of Dew from KFC. It's quite awesome and a neat invention by the tender-crispy chicken food chain. With a bucket of Dew, I was set for the rest of the day of unpacking.

We're not quite settled-in, but we've realized how nice a 47-inch flat screen would be in the living room. Then again, when wouldn't that be nice?

I'm most excited to live in a house right now simply because it's almost October and you know what that means...Halloween!...meaning...little Trick-or-Treaters! I absolutely love little kids dressed up in cute costumes, conquering their fears of scary decorations as they go house to house with their parents waiting on the edge of the driveway. It's too cute. I've actually walked through the candy aisle at Target, already waiting for the prices to go down just so I can stock up.

But the fact that Mr. Big's house is in a developing area means there probably won't be a lot of children trick-or-treating there. And that's sad. Whatever happened to the marathon treaters who had parents drive them from city to city in order to fill pillowcases up with candy?

In preparation for this festivity, I bought a mini-pumpkin at Safeway this morning while purchasing an apple for breakfast. It's not one of those flat-mini-pumpkins that people use as decoration all the way through Thanksgiving. It's really a little round mini pumpkin! I'm not quite sure why it appeals to me, but it just does. When stores start putting out the big pumpkins, you can bet I'll be planning on how to carve them this year!
