Wasting time or money?

When you're home alone with nothing to do and no car, you can find yourself either wasting time, or wasting money.

As I sat in my apartment yesterday, recovering from conjunctivitis, I tried utilizing my new couch to its fullest. It's a big couch, so I got to see how many positions I could lay on it while I watched endless TV.

I also spent time browsing the Internet and trying to do some Christmas shopping. Yes, I know it's only August, but I figured f-it. Get it out of the way. What else was I going to do?

But then I started to stray from Christmas shopping and began looking up Korean DVDs on YesAsia.com. I love that Web site. It's an awesome and convenient way to get my Korean movies.

I ended up buying so many movies that I got free shipping, no tax, and one free movie. How rad is that? They should arrive in about a week.

My downtime also lead to clothes shopping. American Eagle jeans for only $19.99? Can't beat that.

And who could resist eBay on their sick day? I finally got around to buying one of those solar powered good luck cats for Mr. Big's restaurant. I know he's not Chinese, but those cats are universal - just stick one by your cash register and let it do its magic.

Of course there were tons of other things I contemplated buying, like dog toys, work clothes, storage bins...sadly all of these things were far more useful than what I actually ended up buying.

In the midst of all this, my kitty started what I dreadfully presume is her heat cycle, whining and clawing things.

In addition to our new couches, we got this leather ottoman that sits in front of the TV and is right next to the sliding glass door. Kilala loves the new ottoman, claiming it as her own, oftentimes lying on it, or using it to stretch up against the glass.

Usually she is a good kitty, but recently she's been using her claws to spring off the furniture, causing orange-ish claw marks. I got livid.

Grabbing her by the scruff of her neck, I held her up and repeatedly said "no" while flicking the top of her head. Of course there was more punishment, but with over-sensitive animal lovers nowadays, I'll refrain from sharing in detail.

I got this awesome fish-shaped crinkle bag (not the one pictured, but similar) that she can play inside, but for some reason, the noise freaks her out. While she has no problem diving headfirst into a plastic shopping bag, she fearfully maneuvers around the fish bag. Go fish- I mean, go figure.

On a side note, I watched this special on crazy talented young children, which featured Marc Yu. He is insane! He's only 9 right now, but he's a musical prodigy. He's got perfect pitch, too - something only one in 10,000 people have. YouTube Yu performing Beethoven with a full symphony and watch him totally get into the music. When I have kids, they are so learning the piano.
